The municipality of Candelaria buzzed this Saturday with the Cena Romera and the Baile de Magos y Pescadores, one of the most anticipated events of its Festivities of Santa Ana and El Carmen. Approximately 5,000 people gathered at the venue set up next to the City Hall, enjoying an evening marked by a great atmosphere, community spirit, and the deep roots of Canarian customs. 210 tables were arranged to accommodate attendees.
The night was enlivened by performances from the orchestras Son Sabor, Furia Joven (from Gran Canaria), and Revelación, as well as the participation of singer Manuel Dorta, who replaced the initially scheduled artist, Pepe Benavente.
The mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, highlighted the event's importance as a meeting point for the community: “The Baile de Magos y Pescadores is a gathering of the people of Candelaria with our traditions and an opportunity to share with our neighbors a celebration that, year after year, unites us around our customs.” She also emphasized the event's family-friendly nature, noting the participation of all generations and the involvement of young people in local traditions.
One of the novelties of this edition was the careful decoration of the venue, inspired by representative elements of the festivities and Canarian popular culture. Large scapulars of Santa Ana and the Virgen del Carmen, Canarian earrings, traditional fishing boats, vegetation, and figures dressed in typical island attire contributed to a particularly well-curated ambiance.
The celebration proceeded without any significant incidents reported by the Local Police, ensuring a safe and convivial atmosphere for all attendees.
The Festivities of Santa Ana and El Carmen will continue this Sunday with the Fiesta Futbolera in the Plaza de Santa Ana. Starting at 8:00 PM, the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina will be broadcast on a giant screen, accompanied by music from DJ Adri Coello.
