The Candelaria City Council has allocated 500,000 euros to the Candelaria27 Participatory Budgets, an initiative that has received 225 citizen proposals to decide the destination of municipal funds.

The municipality of Candelaria has launched a new phase of community meetings for its Candelaria27 Participatory Budgets. Through this initiative, citizens directly decide how 500,000 euros of the municipal budget are invested.
Mayor Mari Brito highlighted the importance of this stage of the process, noting that a total of 225 ideas submitted by residents have been received. "Half a million euros is not decided from an office; it is decided by listening to those who live their street day-to-day and know exactly what is needed," she stated. The voting phase concludes on October 15.
The voting sessions will take place between October 15 and October 30 at various locations within the municipality. The first community meeting will be on Tuesday, October 15, in the City Council's Plenary Hall for Candelaria Casco. This will be followed by meetings for Playa La Viuda (CTCAN) on October 16, Igueste (Cultural Space ‘Porfirio Torres Cruz’) on October 21, Punta Larga (Cultural Space Punta Larga) on October 23, and Araya, Las Cuevecitas, and Malpaís, with several sessions between October 24 and October 30. All meetings will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
The Councilor for Citizen Participation, Mónica Yanes, urged residents to participate actively: "Every vote counts, and in processes like this, it makes a huge difference. I encourage the people of Candelaria to come to their town's meeting, because the proposals that move forward are the ones we will see executed." She recalled that the most voted proposals will be executed by 2027.
In addition to in-person meetings, viable proposals can also be voted on online through the platform participa.candelaria.es. This website provides all the necessary information about the proposals, including those that were not viable and the reasons why. Online voting will be available starting September 15.
The Candelaria27 Community Budgets are part of the municipal commitment to bring decision-making closer to citizens and ensure balanced investment across all towns within the municipality.
