The mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, and the Councilor for Sports, Manuel González, received local athlete Miguel Díaz Martín at the City Hall this Friday. During the meeting, attended by the athlete's family and team, he was congratulated for his recent career trajectory and achievements.
Miguel Díaz Martín has been a runner-up in Spain twice and has been crowned champion of the Canary Islands in the U20 category for hammer throw with a 7-kilo implement. He currently holds the third-best mark of the year in this discipline. He competes in the División de Honor with the team Titular CajaCanarias Tenerife, after many years with the Club Atletismo Trotamundos de Candelaria, where he trained and took his first steps in hammer throw.
During the reception, the mayor and the Councilor for Sports informed the athlete that he will be the honored figure at the 2026 Sports Gala, scheduled to take place next October in the municipality.
Mari Brito and Manuel González highlighted the athlete's effort, consistency, and sacrifice, underscoring the value for Candelaria in having athletes who carry the municipality's name to the highest levels of national athletics.
