The Tenerife Island Council, through the Insular Craftsmanship Company, along with the Candelaria City Council, has presented the IV 'Patrona de Canarias' Craft Fair. The event will be held in the Plaza de los Pescadores in Candelaria from July 31 to August 2. The fair will showcase the work of 20 artisans from different disciplines.
Attendees at the presentation included the Minister of Employment and Education of the Tenerife Island Council, Efraín Medina, the mayoress of Candelaria, Mari Brito, and the councilors for Culture and Canarian Identity and concessionary companies, Manuel González and Mónica Yanes.
Efraín Medina valued the work done to advance the fair, stating it not only promotes the growth of the artisanal sector but also safeguards Canarian heritage, projecting it for future years, as each exhibited creation carries a fragment of Canarian essence forged over generations. He described it as a moment to reconnect with traditions and with visitors.
Mayoress Mari Brito pointed out that the care, promotion, and preservation of identity are pillars of Candelaria's cultural policies. The Craft Fair has become a benchmark and an unmissable event for both citizens and visitors, serving as a unique space to highlight traditions and the talent of local artisans, whose crafts are still preserved by many families in Candelaria and on the island.
Brito also highlighted that this event marks the transition between the patron saint festivals of Santa Ana and El Carmen and the celebrations honoring the Patroness of the Canary Islands, reinforcing the link between cultural manifestations and identifying heritage.
For Brito, in a globalized world with increasingly impersonal commerce, craftsmanship and traditional trades survive to position us, providing personality, distinction, identity, quality, and creativity born from hands that often inherit ancient human techniques, connected to the land and our way of living it, something impossible for a machine to replicate.
Finally, Brito invited residents and visitors to come to the Plaza de los Pescadores to enjoy this encounter with traditions and craftsmanship.
This edition will feature creations from 13 artisanal modalities, including Almazuelas, Carpentry, Candle making, Fabric decoration, Enamels, Leatherwork, Modeler, Dressmaking, Doll making, and Glasswork, in addition to traditional Calado (lacework), Vara basketry, and Rosetas basketry.
The venue will have 21 individual equipped tents, ensuring a comfortable space for both artisans and visitors. Additionally, the organization will provide information services, maintenance, and card payment facilities to facilitate purchases.
Therefore, the IV 'Patrona de Canarias' Fair solidifies its position as an essential annual event for those wishing to discover and acquire unique pieces reflecting the talent and artisanal tradition of Tenerife and America.
