The offer covers areas such as dance, music, visual arts, crafts, personal well-being, languages, and other artistic and cultural disciplines. UPCAN positions itself as a space for year-round learning and cultural participation, aimed at people of all ages and requiring no prior training.
The mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, has encouraged citizens to participate in this program, highlighting the importance of the Popular University as one of the most significant and cross-cutting projects in the municipality. Last year, it hosted over 1,400 individuals.
Brito recalled the impetus given by the City Council in recent years, including a budget increase, hiring of instructors, improvement of facilities, and expansion of activities and materials.
For his part, the Councilor for Culture, Manuel González, emphasized that UPCAN is a central pillar of Candelaria's cultural policy, annually offering around thirty non-formal education activities through schools and workshops.
The objective is to promote non-regulated artistic and humanistic training, encourage lifelong learning, responsible use of leisure time, and foster social and cultural participation, in addition to creating spaces for meeting and coexistence.
Enrollment for the 2026/2027 course, which will begin on October 1, 2026, and conclude on June 30, 2027, can be completed through the City Council's Electronic Office or in person at the Old Town Hall Cultural Space, from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
