The health strategy, presented in the Canarian Parliament, seeks to strengthen care capacity through the incorporation of cutting-edge technology. Key improvements include the acquisition of linear accelerators, diagnostic imaging equipment such as CT and MRI scanners, and the implementation of hybrid operating rooms at the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Canarias (HUC) and the Hospital Universitario de La Candelaria.
The plan includes specific actions such as the installation of a cyclotron at the HUC, with an eleven million euro budget, and the development of the 2024-2026 Emergency Project. Meanwhile, the Hospital de La Candelaria has focused its efforts on modernizing its emergency services and incorporating pioneering techniques for the treatment of oncological and neurological conditions.
These measures have had a direct impact on care management, achieving a 22% reduction in surgical waiting lists on the island since June 2023. In the case of the HUC, the average delay has been reduced by 57 days, while the Hospital de La Candelaria is now below the national average.
In addition to improvements in major centers, care at the Hospital del Sur has been boosted with the creation of new palliative care units and a day hospital for oncology. Digitalization has also been a key focus, highlighting the implementation of the unified clinical history viewer to improve coordination between the island's different care levels.
