Various left-wing parties in Los Realejos have begun a joint working process aimed at building a unitary candidacy and a broad popular unity space.

Left-wing parties in the municipality of Los Realejos have started a process of “joint work” with the objective of building a candidacy and “a broad space of popular unity that allows confronting the policies of the right and far-right, as well as defending the rights and freedoms of the citizens of Realejos”. According to some of the promoters of this progressive unity, parties such as Izquierda Realejera, Podemos, and Izquierda Unida Canaria have been holding “meetings, debates, and coordination spaces for months to advance towards a common proposal focused on the real needs of the municipality”.
These participating formations emphasize that this initiative is born “with enthusiasm, responsibility, and a vocation for growth, hoping that more political and social groups, as well as independent individuals, will join this project of left-wing unity in Los Realejos and the entire Valle de La Orotava in the coming weeks”.
They also recall that this region “has historically been a benchmark in the defense of social, labor, and democratic rights promoted by progressive and left-wing forces, which is why they consider it necessary to recover that spirit of joint work and commitment to the social majority. The future unitary space will prioritize addressing problems that directly affect the municipality's citizens, such as access to housing, the rising cost of living, the situation of public services, job insecurity, citizen participation, and the need for policies that guarantee equality and social justice”.
The organizations further announce that this project will be publicly presented at an event scheduled for the end of June, which will open a space for reflection and debate on the political and social situation of Los Realejos, as well as on the challenges and opportunities for building a progressive and transformative alternative in the municipality.
This attempt comes after several municipal terms without any councilors to the left of the PSOE in a municipality with a socialist tradition until the shift experienced in 2003 and the absolute majorities of the Partido Popular since 2011.
