The collective Artearena has brought the ephemeral art of carpets from La Orotava to South Korea, participating as the sole representative of Spain at the prestigious International Infiorata Festival 2026 in Seoul. This international gathering brought together artistic delegations from various parts of the world, including Japan, China, Malta, and the host country.
During the festival, Artearena created a tapestry using materials provided by the organization, adapting them to the characteristic artisanal technique of La Orotava. The final work was very well received by the public and international delegations, who praised its quality, color, and meticulous design.
One of the highlights was the presentation given by the Tenerife collective. Before an audience of experts, artists, and the general public, Artearena detailed the complex creation process and the uniqueness of carpets made with natural earth pigments from Las Cañadas del Teide. This artistic manifestation, unique in the world, generated significant interest due to its technical complexity, meticulousness, and originality.
This participation marks a milestone for the external projection of La Orotava, being the first time this carpet-making tradition is exhibited in the East. For Artearena, the experience not only consolidates their career but also opens a valuable international window to promote and value one of the most identifying and representative cultural and heritage manifestations of La Orotava.
The International Infiorata Festival of Seoul, managed by the organization Infiorata Korea, aims to introduce and consolidate the European technique of ephemeral art in Asia. This year's edition, under the theme 'Flowers that draw the children's Seoul', saw participating countries adapt their respective cultural symbols from a childlike, innocent, and colorful perspective. Delegations from Spain (with Artearena), Japan, Malta, South Korea, and a delegation from China cooperated in this international encounter.
