The La Orotava City Council has presented its first Consumer Vouchers campaign, under the slogan ‘Yo compro en La Orotava’ (I buy in La Orotava), with a budget of 300,000 euros, set to launch in September to boost the local economy and support families at the start of the school year.

The initiative aims to encourage shopping in local businesses, promote savings for consumers, and stimulate the local economy. Mayor Francisco Linares, accompanied by the Councillor for Commerce, Deisy Ramos, and the president of FAUCA, Abbas Moujir, announced that the campaign will begin on September 8 via the website www.yocomproenlaorotava.com. This date was strategically chosen to coincide with the back-to-school period and the increased family spending on school supplies and other products.
Linares highlighted the local institution's continuous support for the commercial sector, which in La Orotava has a significant historical character with century-old businesses. This campaign joins other promotional, revitalization, and advisory actions aimed at entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Councillor Deisy Ramos emphasized that the campaign will benefit both consumers and participating establishments, strengthening their activity and attracting customers. "Every purchase made in the municipality has a direct impact on the local economy. It is an investment in the present and future of our municipality," she stated.
The City Council is allocating 300,000 euros to the program, of which 265,000 euros will be used for direct voucher subsidies. Each voucher will be worth 20 euros, but the user will only pay 10 euros, with the difference subsidized by the council. Each person can purchase a maximum of ten vouchers, representing a total purchase value of 200 euros for an outlay of 100 euros by the citizen. Purchases must be made at establishments registered in the program.
Businesses interested in joining the initiative can send an email to yocomproenlaorotava@fauca.org. It is expected that increased participation from businesses will enhance the campaign's economic impact and appeal to consumers.
