The event will take place during the fair's final day, at 12:00 PM, recognizing Delgado's contribution to the preservation and dissemination of this ancestral tradition, intrinsically linked to the cultural identity of Icod de los Vinos.
Over 80 years old, Delgado is a key figure in understanding the Fiesta de las Tablas, having defended the specific terminology of the celebration, such as the distinction between 'dragging' and 'sliding' on the boards. His knowledge also extends to the historical context and materials, like tea wood, central to the tables due to its connection with the area's timber activity.
The tribute will also highlight the work of those who keep this tradition alive and introduce it to younger generations. Delgado is optimistic about the future of the Tablas, stating that 'they will not be lost as long as there are children'.
The nickname ‘Mundo el Capijo’ has family roots and has been passed down through generations. Delgado, originally from the San Antonio-Campino area and the eldest of seven siblings, has championed this unique tradition even outside the Canary Islands.
Following the tribute, the day will feature a commented wine tasting from Icod de los Vinos, by Bodega Viña Engracia, and a musical performance by Esteban Aliaga and Mariano Pérez, who will premiere the song ‘Mi canción a Pinolere’, dedicated to the enclave and its traditions.
The final day of the Pinolere Regional Craft Fair aims to vindicate the memory and cultural heritage of the islands, recognizing those who preserve their traditional manifestations.
