The La Orotava City Council, through its Tourism department, is organizing this second edition to champion the values of the international Cittaslow network. The festival promotes a development model based on sustainability, well-being, local roots, proximity economy, and quality tourism, highlighting the territory's resources, products, traditions, and talent.
The day, running from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM with free admission, will combine educational, gastronomic, cultural, and musical activities. In the morning, students from local educational centers will participate in didactic workshops on gofio, braided cord, and the Honey Museum, aiming to introduce younger generations to the values of healthy eating, biodiversity, and local product consumption.
From 4:30 PM onwards, the general program will commence with the opening of the Km0 fair “Las Ventitas”, a showcase for local producers and artisans that fosters direct contact with consumers and highlights fresh, organic, and traditional products.
A key moment will be the twinning ceremony between La Orotava and Bubión at 5:00 PM, with Bubión presenting its heritage, landscape, and crafts. At 6:00 PM, the Cittaslow distinctions will be awarded to new local establishments and businesses joining the municipal network, expanding the business fabric committed to sustainability and artisanal production.
The musical program includes a performance by Nicotine Swing with their manouche jazz at 7:00 PM, and at 9:00 PM, a concert by Caracoles presenting “Lento”. The day will also feature the participation of A.F. Oroval and other Canarian cultural offerings.
Mayor Francisco Linares emphasized La Orotava's commitment, as the only Canarian municipality in the Cittaslow network, to sustainable development and quality of life. Tourism Councilor Delia Escobar highlighted that being part of this network signifies a commitment to sustainability, well-being, and proximity consumption, aiming for this philosophy to become part of the Villa's daily life.
