Telde, July 22, 2026. The Mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña, received Roberto Rivero and Cathaisa Benítez, representatives of Academy Solidario, at the City Hall. This initiative combines chess, training, and social action to foster integration, education, and support for the municipality's children and young people.
The project leaders expressed their gratitude to the Mayor for the commitment and support of the Telde City Council towards a proposal that is gaining presence among citizens. Roberto and Cathaisa highlighted the importance of institutional support to continue developing an initiative that transmits values such as effort, discipline, concentration, companionship, and equal opportunities through chess.
The Mayor acknowledged the work of Academy Solidario, emphasizing its positive impact beyond sports. "When an initiative is born with a solidarity, educational, and supportive vocation for our children and young people, the City Council must be close and offer a helping hand," he stated. He added that the project "represents much more than a sports activity; it is a project that transmits values, creates opportunities, and helps build a more participatory and cohesive society".
Peña emphasized that "chess is an extraordinary tool for personal development, as it fosters the ability to think, decision-making, patience, and respect for others." He also highlighted "the human component behind this project, with committed individuals who dedicate their time and effort to help others".
The municipal mayor concluded that "Telde needs and deserves initiatives that add value, involve citizens, and work for the present and future of our youth." He assured that "from the City Council, we will continue to support projects that bring value and have a clear social dimension".
The meeting also served to advance new lines of collaboration and strengthen the presence of Academy Solidario in the municipality, with the aim of increasing the number of beneficiaries of its activities.
