The 2026 hunting campaign in Gran Canaria sets August 16 as the start date for hunting rabbits using dogs and ferrets, a period that will extend until November 8. Subsequently, on September 20, the hunt for red partridge, rock dove, and feral animals will begin, also concluding on November 8. Thursdays and Sundays will be the authorized days for this activity.
This proposal, developed by the Insular Hunting Committee and sent by the Cabildo's Department of Environment to the Government of the Canary Islands, has been accepted by the Regional Committee. The unification of dates between Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura aims to prevent hunter displacement between islands when open seasons do not coincide.
In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, rabbit hunting will also commence on August 16, while partridge hunting will start on September 20. In Gran Canaria, rock doves and feral animals may only be hunted with shotguns, maintaining the same dates established in the regional order.
Falconry will begin on August 15 and conclude on November 7, with Wednesdays and Saturdays as open days. For bow hunting, the season will run on Thursdays and Sundays, starting August 16 and ending November 8.
A limit of three rabbits and three red partridges per hunter per day has been set. The number of rock doves and feral animals that can be hunted is unlimited. These figures remain the same as the previous season, despite recent censuses indicating an increase in partridge and rabbit populations, attributed to increased vegetation following rainfall.
Hunting teams, composed of a minimum of three and a maximum of five license holders, may hunt a maximum of nine rabbits and nine red partridges per day. The number of dogs allowed per hunter varies by modality, with up to four for general hunting, one for falconry and archery, and a maximum of two ferrets per hunter.
The 2026 regional order includes the possibility of extending the season by up to four additional days after November 8, should hunting days be suspended due to forest fire risk alerts. This extension, requiring a resolution from the Cabildo's Minister of Environment, will affect the suspended modalities.
