Colombian midfielder Nicolás Benedetti, the first winter reinforcement for UD Las Palmas, has seen his playing time drastically reduced, accumulating only 48 minutes in four months.

The arrival of Nicolás Benedetti at UD Las Palmas during the winter transfer window generated significant anticipation. Announced on December 17, 2025, and presented a day later at the Ciudad Deportiva de Barranco Seco, the Colombian player had excelled in Mexico with Mazatlán, suggesting an immediate impact on the Gran Canaria team.
However, four months later, the reality is quite different. Benedetti has played only 48 minutes across four matches, a stark contrast to his status as a star signing. His adaptation to Segunda División has not met expectations, despite his personal acclimatization to the island and the bonds he has formed within the club.

"He comes from a different football style, and that takes time."

Luis García · UD Las Palmas Coach
Coach Luis García has repeatedly stated that Benedetti's playing style, coming from another league, requires an adaptation period. Meanwhile, other winter reinforcements like Miyashiro, despite a recent injury, and Estanis Pedrola have managed to secure starting positions or gain more prominence, leaving Benedetti in a challenging situation.
The Colombian's situation is further complicated by the fact that, should UD Las Palmas achieve promotion to Primera División, the club will be obligated to pay three million euros to his agent and offer him a four-season contract. This clause was publicly confirmed by president Miguel Ángel Ramírez.
Despite the lack of opportunities, the locker room highlights Benedetti's professionalism, asserting that he “trains like a bull” and possesses “plenty of quality.” With seven matchdays remaining and Miyashiro's injury, a new opportunity might arise for the Colombian to prove his worth and change his current role as a substitute.
