The inaugural Canaluz Cup, held in Telde during Canary Islands Day, has exceeded expectations, solidifying its position as a key event for the Archipelago's grassroots football.

The Pablo Hernández Morales Stadium in El Hornillo, Telde, became the epicenter of Canary Islands grassroots football on the recent Día de Canarias (Canary Islands Day). The tournament, which combined football, Canarian identity, and camaraderie, gathered over a thousand people and surpassed all sporting and organizational expectations.
Hundreds of families filled the stands in a celebratory atmosphere, with teams from Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura, reinforcing the competition's inclusive nature. The organization, led by UD Telde and Canaluz, with the collaboration of the Interinsular Football Federation of Las Palmas and the Telde City Council, received praise for its punctuality, stadium theming, and attention to participants.
The use of the official Adidas Trionda ball, the same used in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, added a touch of professionalism that the young footballers appreciated. High-quality matches were witnessed among prominent clubs such as UD Las Palmas (League champions), Unión Viera, UD Telde, Tamaraceite, Arucas B, Las Longueras, Unión Sur Yaiza, CD Puerto del Carmen, and CD La Oliva.
In the group stage, UD Las Palmas led group 1, while UD Tamaraceite topped group 2. UD Las Palmas ultimately claimed the championship title after a hard-fought final against Unión Viera. In the Silver Phase, Arucas CF was crowned champion.
Representatives from the organization, the federation, and the city council highlighted the event's success. Manuel Hernández, Head of CSR at FIFLP, stated that "events like the Canaluz Cup represent exactly the path that Canary Islands grassroots football should follow." Telde's Sports Councilor, Cristhian Santana, valued the city's projection, and Canaluz's Director of Communication, Héctor Pérez Quevedo, thanked all stakeholders for their involvement.
Canaluz also took the opportunity to promote its special campaign with the Interinsular Football Federation of Las Palmas, offering discounts on electricity supply. The energy company also gifted participants commemorative jerseys, under the slogan "We are the Canarian energy of our football."
The significant social and sporting reception of this first edition opens the door for future editions, with the aspiration that the Canaluz Cup will become a benchmark for grassroots football in the Canary Islands, proving to be a collective experience and a celebration of sport that unites the islands.
