The event, known as Animayo Gran Canaria -La Isla de Mi Vida-, will feature Bancroft's presence, marking his first visit to a festival in Spain. His participation, sponsored by U-Tad, University Center of Technology and Digital Art, will include various activities during the festival's in-person phase.
On Wednesday, May 6, at 6:00 PM, Bancroft will present the short film The Piano by Avery Kroll, for which he served as executive producer. This special screening, with free admission until full capacity, will take place at the CICCA Space during the Live Star Guest Presentation Gala.
Additionally, on Friday, May 8, from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM, he will lead the workshop "Visual Storytelling: Think Like an Artist, Tell Like a Director." On Saturday, May 9, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, he will deliver the masterclass "Animation with a Legacy: Mulan, The Lion King, Aladdin and Other Unforgettable Films." Autograph signings will follow each activity at the same locations. Tickets for both events are available on the Animayo website.
Trained at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), Bancroft is recognized for his contributions to the Walt Disney Feature Animation Renaissance in the nineties. His work in developing the animation and visual style of iconic titles has been widely acclaimed and awarded. In addition to co-directing Mulan, he was an animation supervisor and creator of characters such as Pumbaa from The Lion King, Iago from Aladdin, and Cogsworth from Beauty and the Beast.
His career also includes collaborations on films such as Mary Poppins Returns and Disenchanted, as well as Disney's 2023 short film Once Upon a Studio. Tony Bancroft is co-founder of The Bancroft Brothers Animation Podcast and the studio Toonacious Family Entertainment, which focuses on family content. He is also co-founder of Animation Expo and author of the book Directing for Animation.
