The island institution will annually allocate 1,228,150 euros to this new agreement, which joins the IAS's network of contracted or collaborating dependency support. With these new vacancies, the center now has a total capacity of 101 users, including the existing 31 private places.
The President of the Council, Antonio Morales, highlighted during his visit that the island has 1,600 sociosanitary places and over 400 contracted with various organizations. Morales also emphasized the 80 places agreed upon with the Lazoss Association for promoting personal autonomy, which involve direct home care twice a week, with an annual contribution from the Council of nearly 900,000 euros.
The total funding from the Council for this entity, which serves around 150 people in the northern region, amounts to two million euros. The Minister of Social Policy, Isabel Mena, stated that these places meet the demand from dependent individuals seeking greater autonomy and stressed the need for reconciliation spaces where the elderly can stay during the day before returning home in the afternoon.
“"The most important thing is that they are autonomous"
Naira Monzón, director of the Lazoss Day Center, positively assessed the agreement, calling it "very positive for the municipality of Arucas". She highlighted that the center offers physiotherapy, occupational therapy, cognitive stimulation activities, workshops, and a dining service, operating as an "open center" where users participate by "their own free will".
