The action focused on the stretch between the Electra roundabout, at the access to the La Ballena bridge, and Obispo Romo street. In addition to asphalting, the project included accessibility improvements with the lowering of sidewalks at various points in the area, also covering Pepe Castellano and Bejeque streets, within the Sansofé urbanization.
According to the city council, this renovation is part of a continuous effort to improve the municipal road network and responds to a demand from residents of Escaleritas. The avenue is one of the main connections between the lower and upper city, handling a high volume of daily traffic.
Much of the work was carried out at night to minimize traffic disruptions, a measure that allowed mobility in the area to be maintained despite the temporary closures and alternative routes required. This strategy was crucial for intervening on a high-intensity road without completely paralyzing daily activity in the district.
This work is part of a larger project that includes a global investment of 2.89 million euros and covers actions in Alcaravaneras and Guanarteme. It is also integrated into the Municipal Asphalting Plan 2024-2031, an initiative that foresees the renovation of 474 streets in the five districts of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and in the main industrial areas, with a total investment of 40 million euros.
To date, the City Council has asphalted or is in the process of renovating more than 105 roads in various neighborhoods, such as Tomás Morales, Paseo de Chil, Avenida de Ansite, Salto del Negro, Piletas, La Feria, El Pilar, Triana, El Lasso, Vegueta, and León y Castillo. The executed investment exceeds 8 million euros, with projections to reach 10 million in new actions by next year.
