Residents of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria have until April 30 to submit their applications for municipal rental assistance. This initiative by the City Council aims to support individuals and families facing economic difficulties, offering coverage of up to 80% of the monthly rent. The call for applications has a total allocation of 1.5 million euros, representing a 44% increase from previous years, thus adapting to the current rise in housing market prices.
To be eligible for these aids, applicants must have been registered in the municipality for at least two years, be the leaseholder, and use the property as their habitual and permanent residence. The main objective of the local administration is to prevent residential exclusion and avoid housing loss, ensuring a dignified home for its citizens.
The call has expanded the economic limits to facilitate broader access. The income threshold is now set at up to 2.5 times the IPREM (Public Indicator of Multiple Effect Income). The maximum subsidized rental price can reach 750 euros per month under the general scheme, and up to 900 euros for large families or people with reduced mobility who require adapted housing. In exceptional situations, with a favorable social report, the aid could cover up to 100% of the rent.
Initially, the aid is granted for a period of six months, with the possibility of extension up to 24 months. In cases of extreme, duly justified need, this period can be extended up to 36 months. Applications can be processed electronically through the municipal electronic headquarters or in person at the General Registry, by prior appointment at telephone number 010. For the initial procedure, only a photocopy of the DNI is required. Additionally, the City Council maintains an open processing period throughout the year for urgent, justified situations.
