The proposal aims to comply with the ruling from the High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC), which invalidated the 2021 and 2022 regulations. These measures restricted the ability of taxi drivers from outside the municipalities of Telde and Ingenio to pick up passengers in sensitive areas of the island.
The political group emphasizes that this restriction has affected workers from 19 municipalities for five years. They also recall that before the covid pandemic, there were no quotas for operating at the airport or the ports of La Luz and Las Nieves.
The court ruling, currently under appeal before the Supreme Court, maintains that it is not acceptable to impose restrictions on the freedom of enterprise based solely on economic criteria. Furthermore, the judgment states that it has not been proven that the limitation is an effective tool for managing traffic or public space.
