The Gando Air Base hosted the twentieth edition of the Macan Half Marathon, an event that gathered 1,056 participants across the 21 and 7-kilometer distances. The race, held within the military facility, was notable for its high attendance and the smooth running of the competitions.
In the men's half marathon category, the winner managed to take the lead in the final kilometers after a close contest. The athlete crossed the finish line with a time of one hour, 19 minutes, and 43 seconds, surpassing his main competitor, who finished just eight seconds later. Third place went to a runner from Chanchullo Trail, with a time of 1h.20:25.
In the women's competition, the winner dominated the race from start to finish, controlling all splits without any rival being able to challenge her. The athlete claimed victory with a time of one hour, 37 minutes, and ten seconds. The women's podium was completed by two other runners, with times of 1h.42:21 and 1h.45:45, respectively.
In the Gando Athletic Race, the seven-kilometer event, victories went to a runner from UAVA and a female athlete, both of whom also excelled in the military category. The former completed the course in 23 minutes and 13 seconds, while the latter did so in 29 minutes and 32 seconds.
The event also included the third edition of an inclusive race, with the participation of members from the Trisomía21 Association, and the presentation of the ULPGC Rector's Trophies. The awards ceremony was presided over by the General Chief of the Canary Islands Air Command (Macan), who was accompanied by the President of the Macan Physical Education and Sports Board. The latter highlighted the success of the event and commemorated the centenary of the Plus Ultra flight, which made a stop in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1926.
