The vessel, which features 7,000 square meters of medical facilities, is utilizing Astican's infrastructure to ensure its equipment is fully operational before continuing its humanitarian work in Ghana.
The Global Mercy's design integrates a top-tier hospital with the requirements of a floating city. On board, there are six operating theaters, diagnostic areas, radiology, pharmacy, and laboratory facilities, along with over 200 hospital beds for patients requiring surgical care.
Beyond direct medical care, the project focuses on training local professionals. The ship is equipped with classrooms, simulation labs, and augmented reality technology to strengthen health systems in the countries where it operates.
The stay in Gran Canaria is essential to ensure the safety and proper functioning of all medical and technical equipment on board. Once maintenance is complete, the vessel will resume its journey to provide specialized surgery and health training in Africa.
