Intense Day at Las Palmas Film Festival with Premieres and Restored Works

The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival hosts one of its most comprehensive days this Wednesday, April 29, featuring a program ranging from world premieres to restored works and meetings with filmmakers at Yelmo cinemas.

The cultural agenda of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is enriched with a diverse cinematic offering, including productions from India, the United States, Canada, Germany, China, Chile, and the Canary Islands. This selection is designed to satisfy fans of auteur cinema, documentaries, new talents, and restored works.
The morning begins at 09:30 AM in Yelmo 4 with the screening of Songs of the Forgotten Trees, an Indian film by Anuparna Roy competing in the Official Feature Film Section. Later, at 11:45 AM in the same venue, it will be the turn of Lucky Lu, a co-production between the United States and Canada directed by Lloyd Lee Choi.
Local talent will take center stage at 12:00 PM in Yelmo 5 with Por qué no escribo nada (Why I Don’t Write Anything) by Isabel Fernández, as part of the Canarias Cinema section. This will be the last chance to see this Canarian production, highlighting the festival's support for the archipelago's audiovisual industry.
The afternoon will feature restored classics and auteur cinema. At 5:00 PM in Yelmo 8, the Restored Treasures section will present La carpa de circo (Thampu / The Circus Tent), an Indian work by director Aravindan Govindan from 1978. The evening and night program includes at 6:00 PM in Yelmo 7 Trial of Hein (Der Heimatlose) by German director Kai Stänicke. At 6:15 PM in Yelmo 5, the B. Aparte: I Agüero – Session 3 section will screen El otro día (The Other Day) by Chilean filmmaker Ignacio Agüero, who will also participate in a post-screening discussion. One of the most anticipated moments will be at 7:00 PM in Yelmo 6 with Resurrection (Kuang ye shi dai) by acclaimed Chinese director Bi Gan, which will include a preceding short film and a meeting with the director himself.
The night will conclude with the return of Songs of the Forgotten Trees at 8:20 PM in Yelmo 4, featuring a Q&A session with its director. Finally, at 8:30 PM in Yelmo 7, Remake by American Ross McElwee will be screened, marking its final showing at the festival.
