Following the absence of the 2025 edition and months of inactivity on its official channels, interest has resurfaced regarding the status of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Book Fair. The last time the event took place was between May 29 and June 2, 2024, at San Telmo Park, its usual venue.
The cancellation of what would have been its 37th edition in 2025 was attributed to bureaucratic and economic difficulties, as explained by the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council. Despite the interruption, the institutional message conveyed a temporary pause rather than a definitive disappearance, maintaining hope for its continuation.
“"The intention is for the fair to return this year."
The book sector has expressed its strong desire to revive the fair. The organization is working on redefining the event to address accumulated problems from previous years and ensure its future viability. The primary goal is to reorganize both administrative aspects and the management model to prevent further cancellations.
The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Book Fair has established itself over the decades as a crucial meeting point between the publishing sector and the public. It has not only served as a showcase for literary novelties but also as a space for cultural revitalization in the heart of the capital. The 36th edition, held in 2024, brought together bookstores, publishers, and authors for five days at San Telmo Park, offering a diverse program that included presentations, signings, roundtables, and activities for children and young adults.
Currently, the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Book Fair is in the preparation phase, with no concrete announcements regarding its next edition. The City Council maintains its financial support and contact with the organizers, while the sector redefines the model after the 2025 pause. Although no firm date has been set, a return in 2026 appears to be the most probable scenario, pending confirmation of timelines and the definitive format.
