Las Palmas de Gran Canaria marks its 548th anniversary with San Juan festivities

The capital of Gran Canaria celebrates its 548th anniversary today with a festive schedule that combines institutional ceremonies, cultural exhibitions, and a nighttime fireworks display at Las Canteras beach.

The celebration marks the historical settlement near the Guiniguada ravine. The official agenda begins at 8:00 PM with the Honors and Distinctions ceremony, where medals and honorary titles will be awarded to various groups and individuals.
Earlier in the day, the area around the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium will host cultural activities from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The program includes urban dance, rap, and freestyle performances, linked to the Rebel Walls. Urban Stories exhibition.
Musical performances will take place at the Plaza de la Música starting at 10:00 PM. After midnight, the venue will host a public dance featuring a local orchestra to continue the festivities.
The highlight of the night will be the launch of 195 kilograms of fireworks from the Los Muellitos area. The show, titled Noche de magia y fuego, will illuminate the coastline for over ten minutes with various figures and visual effects.
The City Council has activated a special security plan that includes traffic restrictions on Príncipe de Asturias and Industrial José Sánchez Peñate avenues, as well as adjacent streets. Public transport is recommended. A cleaning crew of 76 workers will handle sanitation duties between 1:30 AM and 5:30 AM.
