The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council has received approval to proceed with four significant projects, funded with 7 million euros by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, which include improvements in public infrastructure and facilities.

The Commission of Urban Planning, Housing, Sustainable Development and Mobility has given the green light to the implementation of four initiatives that are part of a subsidy granted by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria to the capital's council in the summer of 2024. This funding, framed within the Additional Investment Plan for Municipalities (PAI), amounts to a total of 7 million euros.
Among the highlighted projects is the expansion of the Suárez Naranjo multipurpose center, with an allocation of 1.06 million euros. Also, 3.45811 million euros will be allocated to the refurbishment of a section of the old Carlos Navarro school to convert it into the headquarters of the popular university. The improvement of public spaces in the Isla Perdida neighborhood will receive 1.05 million euros, and the rehabilitation of the building and tower of the fire station in Miller Bajo will receive 2.14 million euros.
The Cabildo de Gran Canaria's Additional Investment Plan set December 31, 2026, as the deadline for the execution of the works and the accounting of subsidized expenses in the budget. In response, the City Council has decided to increase the percentages assigned to annual payments and resort, in most cases, to open and simplified contracting procedures to accelerate the start of the works.
Regarding deadlines and fund distribution, for the Suárez Naranjo center, an investment of 725,000 euros is planned for 2026 and 330,647.03 euros for 2027, with a seven-month execution period. The intervention in the Carlos Navarro Ruiz school, specifically in buildings 1 and 5, could be completed in eight months, with 2.64 million euros reserved for the current year and 811,329.51 euros for the next. The improvement of public spaces in Isla Perdida also has an eight-month deadline, with 797,000 euros in 2026 and a complement of 360,332.62 euros. Finally, the rehabilitation of the fire station is estimated at 14 months, with 1.89 million euros in 2026 and 267,630.38 euros for the following year.
