Las Canteras beach will be the focal point for the capital's 548th anniversary celebration, with activities commencing at 5:00 PM near the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium. The event will feature a concert by Álvaro de Luna at 10:00 PM, followed by fireworks at midnight and a street party until 3:00 AM.
The Councilor for Security, Josué Íñiguez, has urged citizens to act with civility and responsibility, encouraging them to enjoy the magical night safely and respectfully. Few incidents are anticipated despite the large crowd, given the residents' usual good conduct.
“"All the waste we bring, we take away, leaving the beach in perfect condition for the next day"
Particular emphasis has been placed on the environmental protection of Las Canteras, with attendees asked to collect all their litter. To facilitate this, the council has deployed approximately one hundred additional bins in the area.
Bonfires on the beach are strictly prohibited. A dedicated team, supported by Civil Protection, the Municipal Cleaning Service, and the Local Police, will be responsible for identifying and removing any materials gathered for burning.
The security operation will involve personnel from the Local Police, National Police, Civil Protection, and the Red Cross. Specialized units include the Local Protection and Support Unit (UPAL) for minors and the Operational Intervention and Support Group (GOIA-UE) for promenade surveillance. The Red Cross will also have a boat, and a Violet and Rainbow Point will be established to support victims of sexist aggression.
Following the festivities, a special cleaning operation involving 76 workers and 23 vehicles will commence between 1:30 AM and 5:30 AM on June 24th to restore the beach and its surroundings to normal for public enjoyment. Ten ecological stations for selective waste collection will be installed, supplementing the 46 general waste bins distributed along the Paseo de Las Canteras.
Due to expected high attendance, traffic restrictions will be in place on streets near the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium and the Las Arenas shopping center starting at 7:00 PM, potentially earlier if needed. Avenidas Príncipe de Asturias and Industrial José Sánchez Peñate, along with streets Simancas, Pavía, and Numancia, will be affected. Access to El Rincón from the GC-2 highway may also be closed if crowd levels warrant it.
The City Council advises using public transport and following the instructions of security and emergency services to ensure smooth mobility and safety for all attendees.
