The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council has expressed its solidarity with Venezuela following the earthquakes that occurred last Thursday, June 26, which resulted in hundreds of fatalities, numerous injuries, and considerable material damage.
Before the start of the ordinary June plenary session, the council unanimously approved an institutional declaration, co-signed by all political groups represented municipally. The text conveys condolences to the victims' families and support for those who have lost loved ones, homes, or livelihoods due to the seismic events.

The declaration, read by the mayor, Carolina Darias, highlights the strong historical, familial, and cultural ties that connect Canary Islands, and particularly Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with Venezuela. This nation has hosted thousands of Canarian emigrants over the decades, and the city maintains what are described as "deep human ties" with it.
The agreement also expresses the City Council's support for the Venezuelan community residing in the Gran Canarian capital, numbering nearly 80,000 people, who are living with concern for relatives and friends in the areas affected by the earthquakes.
Furthermore, the council has stated its readiness to collaborate, within its purview and available municipal resources, with public administrations, Canarian institutions, humanitarian organizations, and international bodies promoting aid actions for the affected population, as indicated in the statement.
As a sign of mourning and support, the municipal corporation observed a minute of silence in memory of those who died and in solidarity with their families and all Venezuelan citizens affected by the tragedy.
