The National Coinage and Stamp Factory has minted 1.5 million of these pieces, which are already circulating and can be found in the pockets of thousands of citizens, including those in Tenerife and Las Palmas. These commemorative coins, launched annually to highlight historical events or elements of Spanish heritage, often become coveted items for numismatic collectors due to their limited production.
The design of the new coin, with a golden background, features two hands holding a book with the national shield. Notable inscriptions include "Art. 49", "inclusion", "España", and the year "2026", surrounded by the twelve stars of the European Union. This issue represents a historic demand for people with disabilities.
The reform of Article 49 of the Constitution, approved by the Congress of Deputies with 315 votes in favor and 33 abstentions, replaced the term 'disabled' with 'people with disabilities', reinforcing the guarantee of 'real and effective freedom and equality' for this group.
