The municipal facility, which has been closed since March 2021, is moving towards its operational restart following the signing of an administrative concession agreement in January between the Telde City Council and the Canarian Swimming Federation. This agreement ensures municipal ownership and public use of the sports center for an initial period of 15 years, with a possible extension up to 25 years.
Since the agreement's formalization, the Federation has conducted a thorough study to determine the necessary interventions. Initial works focus on the roof, entrance, changing rooms, the 25-meter pool area, the electrical system, and evacuation and fire prevention plans. Although the required investment exceeds initial estimates, the federative entity has committed to seeking the financial resources to cover the costs.
“"The idea remains the same, to open the doors next July."
The works began with the removal of the entrance corridor pavement and will continue with the repair of walls affected by leaks in the lower changing rooms. This first phase will enable the main pool and activity room to become operational, marking a significant milestone for the Telde community.
The reopening of Paco Artiles represents a significant investment for the Canarian Swimming Federation, but it is considered a manageable challenge given the potential of this emblematic facility. The center's closure in 2021 affected over 40 workers and more than 4,000 users, and its reactivation unblocks a situation that had persisted for years.
