Quevedo to Receive Gold Medal of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will honor 16 personalities and institutions with various recognitions.

On June 23rd, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will bestow its Gold Medal upon 16 personalities and institutions, including the singer Quevedo, as part of the city's 548th anniversary.

In a ceremony to be held at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, the city council will recognize the work of figures and entities linked to the city. The main distinction, the Gold Medal, will be presented to eight entities and the renowned artist Pedro Luis Domínguez Quevedo, globally known as Quevedo.
Among the entities receiving the Gold Medal are the San José Hospital of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Bientratar Association, the Coral Cantata of the Real Club Victoria, the Federation of Folkloric Groups of Gran Canaria (FAFGC), Clipper, Canary Shipyards (Astican), and the Artemi Neighborhood Association.
Furthermore, on the eve of San Juan, the composer and director of Barrios Orquestados, José Brito López; footballer Jonathan Viera Ramos; and dancer and choreographer Dácil González Ruiz will be named Favorite Sons and Daughters. Posthumously, this distinction will be awarded to the multidisciplinary artist Roberta Marrero Gutiérrez.
The city will also welcome four Adopted Sons and Daughters. These honors will go to physicist, engineer, and science communicator Javier Santaolalla Camino; Head of the Pneumology Service at the Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín University Hospital and professor at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), José Antonio Caminero Luna; Vice President of UNICEF Canary Islands Committee, Nereida Castro Martín; and Physical Education Professor Cecilia Dorado García (ULPGC).
