The appointment of the 35-year-old Valencian official has drawn attention due to his previous history with both clubs. During a match on April 11, the referee failed to award a penalty after an incident in the box that was later reviewed and criticized by the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA).
The CTA acknowledged that the incident should have resulted in a penalty and a yellow card, noting that the VAR should have intervened as it was a clear and obvious error. For tomorrow's match, the referee will be supported by José Antonio López in the video assistant referee booth.
“"I do believe that the people in the VAR, with lower heart rates, should see it. That is where I think we must be critical, because they should have alerted the referee."
The home team's coach recently expressed his views on self-criticism within the refereeing body, defending the work of officials in professional football while emphasizing the need for greater precision from VAR operators during decisive match moments.
