Rocasa Gran Canaria commenced its pre-season on Wednesday, July 30, 2026, with its inaugural training session. The team is preparing for a new campaign aimed at keeping the name of Telde in the elite of handball, both in Spain and internationally. The city's mayor, Juan Antonio Peña, and the Councilor for Physical Activity and Sports, Cristhian Santana, attended the pavilion to support the squad, coaching staff, and management during this symbolic start.
Joining the municipal authorities was Antonio Moreno, president of the Club Balonmano Remudas Isla de Gran Canaria – Rocasa Gran Canaria. Under his leadership, the entity has become a benchmark in Spanish women's sports, accumulating national titles and national prestige. The municipal delegation shared the afternoon with club members, showing interest in the season's planning and conveying institutional support.
The start of training marks the first step towards a new sporting year in which Rocasa will once again compete for major national titles and return to European competitions, carrying the name of Telde across the continent.
Mayor Juan Antonio Peña addressed the squad, wishing them collective and individual success. "I hope that this season all your dreams come true, both the team's and each of your personal ones. Behind every training session there is effort, sacrifice, and many hours of work that deserve to be rewarded," he stated.
Peña highlighted Rocasa's role as an ambassador for Telde: "You represent this city wherever you compete. You are our ambassadors in and out of Spain, and you make the name of Telde travel throughout Europe. I want you to feel the support of an entire city that is proud of you and accompanies you in every match."
The mayor emphasized the Teldense team's social dimension, highlighting its ability to unite the city. "You have achieved something very difficult: uniting a city. You don't just excite those who follow handball every weekend. You also awaken the affection and admiration of many people who may not know this sport or even couldn't name all the players, but who feel Rocasa as their own. That capacity to unite an entire municipality is one of the greatest triumphs a club can achieve."
The mayor recalled the municipal government's commitment to continue improving sports facilities. "We will continue working to improve the municipality's sports infrastructure. We will do so through institutional collaboration, alongside the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and the Government of the Canary Islands, because Rocasa deserves facilities in line with its history, its successes, and the prestige it projects for Telde."
For his part, Councilor Cristhian Santana highlighted that the start of pre-season represents a new hope for the entire city. "Every season that begins is an opportunity to continue making history. Rocasa has spent many years demonstrating that hard work, perseverance, and commitment are the best path to success. From the City Council, we will be by your side throughout the year, because we are talking about a club that, like few others, represents the values of sport, collective effort, and equality."
Santana added that Rocasa is a major sporting reference in the Canary Islands and a role model for hundreds of girls and young women who find inspiration in its players' dedication, self-improvement, and commitment.
