The municipality of Santa Brígida celebrated Canary Islands Day with a massive Community Gathering. Residents and visitors flocked to the Mirador de la Villa from early morning to enjoy a day that evoked Canarian memory and tradition.
The sound of folk music groups (parrandas), the aroma of watercress stew, and demonstrations of traditional crafts marked the start of the celebration. Stalls offered local crafts, products from wineries like Bodega Ventura, and a varied gastronomic selection including Canarian sancocho, pork, gofio paste, and artisanal cheese.
Performances by folk groups such as San Antonio, El Botellín, La Zarzalera, and Las Goteras, along with the Municipal Music School, filled the air with Canarian music. The day also featured demonstrations of threshing, shearing, Canarian wrestling, and Garrote wrestling, as well as traditional games for children.
The spirit of community was a major highlight, with families and friends sharing tables and recalling the essence of old village gatherings. The free tasting of watercress stew, gofio, and cheese drew long queues, underscoring the value of gastronomy as a cultural vehicle.
The Community Gathering [...] once again became a meeting point to celebrate the pride of being Canarian.
This event, organized by the Department of Rural Development and funded by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the Chamber of Commerce of Gran Canaria, and the brand Gran Canaria Me Gusta, reaffirmed the identity and pride of being Canarian.
