The National Police, through the Specialized and Violent Crime Unit (UDEV) of the Superior Headquarters of Canarias, has solved a kidnapping offense committed in March 2025 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The investigation, named Operation Kripto, has concluded with the arrest of seven individuals as alleged perpetrators.
The events took place on March 17, 2025, between 9:00 PM and 9:30 PM, when the victim was intercepted in the private parking lot of their home by a group posing as police officers. Using a van-type vehicle, the assailants forcibly subdued the victim and placed them inside the vehicle, transporting them to an industrial warehouse where they were held for several hours.
During the captivity, the investigated individuals used threats and assaults to force the victim to make a large cryptocurrency transfer. They also stole cash and various valuable items. Subsequently, the perpetrators abandoned the victim, after warning them of the consequences they could face if they reported the incident to the authorities.
Upon learning of the incident, the agents initiated investigations that allowed them to identify and locate the alleged perpetrators, culminating in the arrest of the seven individuals involved. After concluding the police proceedings, the detainees have been handed over to the competent judicial authority, which ordered the imprisonment of two of them.
