Under the title "Sounds of America", the symphonic ensemble from Gran Canaria, conducted by the Venezuelan maestro Christian Vásquez, will present a musical journey through representative sounds of the American continent, with a special focus on Venezuela, Mexico, and Argentina. The concert, starting at 8:30 PM, will have free admission until full capacity.
The program includes works such as "De mi Tierra" by Giancarlo Castro D’Addona, "Danzón nº 8" by Arturo Márquez, "Mariachitlán" by Juan Pablo Contreras, "Symphony No. 2, Symphony India" by Carlos Chávez, "Sensemayá" by Silvestre Revueltas, the "Huapango" by José Pablo Moncayo, the four dances from "Estancia" by Alberto Ginastera, and "Antrópolis" by Gabriela Ortiz. The Gran Canaria Philharmonic will transform San Juan Park into an open-air auditorium for the night.
The Councilor for Culture, Juan Martel, highlighted that the concert represents "an exceptional opportunity to bring symphonic music to everyone in an open space, without barriers, and in the heart of our city." He emphasized that the program, "full of rhythm, strength, identity, and emotion," is designed to connect directly with the audience, without requiring expertise in classical music.
Christian Vásquez, one of the most internationally recognized Venezuelan conductors, trained within the renowned Venezuelan system of youth and children's orchestras, will lead the orchestra. He has conducted prestigious ensembles worldwide, and his knowledge of the American repertoire will bring a "special personality" to the concert.
