The Telde City Council has launched the Events to Visualize and Value Women in the Primary Sector, taking place in October to showcase female contributions in agriculture, livestock, and winemaking.

The Telde City Council presented this Thursday at the Casa Condal the Events to Visualize and Value Women in the Primary Sector. This program will run throughout October to highlight the work and experiences of women involved in agriculture, livestock, viticulture, and other primary sector activities.
The initiative, promoted by the Primary Sector Department, was presented on the occasion of the International Day of Rural Women, commemorated every October 15th. The events coincide with 2026, declared by the FAO as the International Year of the Farmer, under the theme 'Sowing the Future'.
Mayor Juan Antonio Peña emphasized the need to “recognize the work of so many women who for generations have contributed to the development of the land, preserved our traditions, and kept our primary sector alive.” He noted that these events “allow us to put names, stories, and faces to a labor that has often been carried out silently, but which is fundamental to our society”.
María Calderín, head of the Primary Sector Department, stated that the program aims to “give visibility to the women who are and have been part of our primary sector, learn about their experiences, and bring to the public the enormous economic, social, and cultural value of their work”.
Activities will commence on Friday, October 9th, with a guided tour of Bodegas Bentayga in Tejeda. On Tuesday, October 13th, another guided tour will take place at Bodega Señorío de Cabrera in Telde. Participation in these visits, limited to 20 people, requires registration at agricultura@telde.es.
On Wednesday, October 14th, activities will move to the Molino de Fuego for a guided tour. The central event will be held on Thursday, October 15th, International Day of Rural Women, at the Casa Condal.
During the main event, three women from Telde's primary sector will be honored: Felisa Vega (Bodega Señorío de Cabrera), Elena Sánchez (Molino de Fuego), and Carolina Medina (Granja Tío Isidro). The program will include the play 'Herederas de la Zafra', the presentation of the publication 'Mujeres del Vino', a video screening, and a musical performance by timple player Laura Martel.
