The Telde City Council, in Gran Canaria, has announced that vehicles 25 years or older will be exempt from paying circulation tax starting in 2026, a measure affecting 13,582 units.

This provision, formalized in December 2023 after its publication in the Official State Gazette (BOE), was one of the first actions implemented by the current municipal government. Its primary objective is to alleviate the tax burden on citizens, especially those who own and maintain classic vehicles.

"This simple action fulfills this government's commitment to lighten the tax burden on our citizens, especially those who preserve old vehicles."

Juan Antonio Peña · Mayor of Telde
The council has clarified that the exemption is applied automatically, without the need for owners to carry out additional procedures with Valora, the entity responsible for collecting municipal taxes. Receipts issued since April already reflect this change, excluding vehicles that meet the age requirement.
However, the local corporation has advised citizens who may have mistakenly received a tax charge to claim it as soon as possible at Valora's offices. The voluntary period for paying the circulation tax began on April 6 and will continue until June 8, which is also the deadline for correcting any detected incidents.
