The plenary session of the Social Council of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) has favorably approved the proposal for a new master's degree in Intelligent Digital Humanities. This qualification is considered consistent with the institution's academic offerings, highlighting its focus on an emerging field with international projection and potential in the digitalization of cultural content and the use of advanced technologies.
The Social Council emphasizes the social and professional relevance of this postgraduate program, its adaptation to the economic and productive environment, the availability of academic and organizational resources, and its economic viability. However, it stresses the need for adequate planning of teaching resources to ensure its medium and long-term sustainability.
During the same session, the Social Council acknowledged the audit report on the ULPGC's accounts for 2024, prepared by the Canarian Court of Accounts. This report, which analyzes regulatory compliance in economic-financial and internal control matters, confirms that the annual accounts were prepared in accordance with the applicable accounting framework, although it identifies areas for improvement in the internal control system.
In response, the University, in coordination with the Rectorate and Management, has consolidated a work plan to strengthen the Internal Control Service. This includes an increase in staffing and the consolidation of its technical structure, aiming to ensure the proper exercise of its functions. The plenary agreed to address the report's content within the Economic Commission of the Social Council for continuous monitoring and the strengthening of economic-financial management.
“"The university needs to have a stable funding path as soon as possible, agreed with the Canarian Government, to consolidate the improvements undertaken and face its academic, management, and infrastructure needs with guarantees."
