The Institute of Animal Health and Food Safety (IUSA) at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) will participate in the 22nd edition of the ‘Science and Innovation Weeks in Canarias’ (SCIC26) throughout November.

Under the theme ‘One Health: veterinarian for a day’, IUSA researchers will deliver three online talks between November 4th and 6th, aimed at students in 3rd and 4th year of ESO, Baccalaureate, and Vocational Training in the health sector. These sessions will introduce the institute's work in areas such as microbiology, production animals, and wildlife.
The talks will be held via the Microsoft Teams platform, with a virtual classroom open from 08:50 AM. On Wednesday, November 4th, the first activity will be ‘The mysteries of the microbiological world: from names (taxonomy) and bacterial resistances’. On Thursday, November 5th, the session will be ‘Improving the health of goats through the use of potentially harmful bacteria (Escherichia coli)’. Finally, on Friday, November 6th, IUSA will conclude its online sessions with ‘We care for the health of Canarias's wildlife (RED VIGIA and SAFAMAR)’.
Educational centers interested in participating can request information and register by sending an email to raquel.puiglozano@ulpgc.es, indicating the desired session, number of attendees, school year, and center name. They will receive the access link.
The ‘Science and Innovation Weeks 2026’ initiative is promoted by the Regional Ministry of Universities, Science, Innovation, and Culture through the Canarian Agency for Research, Innovation, and Information Society (ACIISI). The activities, free and for all audiences, will take place throughout November across all Canary Islands, including workshops, talks, guided tours, and exhibitions.
