Officers were dispatched to San Matías street after receiving a report of a fire in a dwelling. Upon arrival, they observed that the property showed signs of abandonment and that firefighters were in the process of extinguishing a small fire inside. The door had to be broken down to gain access.
The house is part of the old blocks from the neighborhood's redevelopment plan that have not yet been demolished by the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. After the fire was put out, officers inspected the interior and found a shotgun, two air-powered pistols with their cartridges, a knife approximately 30 centimeters long, a small scale, and a cash box with 125 euros, among other items.
As there was no one inside the house and to prevent theft, the seized items were handed over to the National Police Corps. Outside, a witness told officers they had seen an individual place gasoline containers in front of the house door, set them on fire, and then flee.
Inside the house, judicial documents were also found in the name of the witness, despite the witness not identifying himself as the resident of the property. The investigation remains open, and no arrests have been made.
