The cultural and gastronomic initiative «Vegueta beats from its market» has concluded with remarkable success, attracting over 18,000 people and consolidating the Vegueta Market as a dynamic hub in the historic center of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The event, promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands in collaboration with the market itself, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Vegueta Zone Business Association, transformed the emblematic space into a vibrant center of activity for four days.
Between April 15 and 18, the Vegueta Market and its surroundings hosted a diverse program that included commerce, gastronomy, live music, family activities, workshops, tastings, and neighborhood tours. This proposal significantly increased visitor flow and had a direct impact on over 500 commercial and hospitality establishments in the Vegueta and Triana areas.
The initiative allowed residents and visitors to rediscover the foundational neighborhood, reinforcing the market's role not only as a traditional shopping venue but also as a community meeting point and a driver of activity for the entire city. A total of 10,500 attendees were registered for the 41 programmed activities, which involved 184 professionals including organizers, producers, merchants, and collaborating staff.

"Actions like this demonstrate that supporting local commerce and traditional markets also means betting on more vibrant, competitive cities with a stronger identity. 'Vegueta beats from its market' has shown the capacity of these spaces to generate economy, social cohesion, and new opportunities for the local business fabric."
One of the most highlighted aspects was the quick painting contest, which attracted numerous participants and the general public. The organization has positively evaluated this first edition, which has successfully increased the visibility of local commerce, strengthened inter-institutional collaboration, and projected Vegueta as a commercial and tourist destination increasingly linked to cultural activity.

"The response obtained confirms that the market continues to be one of the great social and commercial references of the city. We have seen neighbors, visitors, and new generations enjoy this space in a different way, strengthening the link between tradition, innovation, and neighborhood life."
Following the excellent reception, the promoting entities will analyze future actions to continue this proposal, whose objective is to activate the historic heart of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria through one of its most representative spaces.
