Telde, October 1, 2026. The San Francisco neighborhood became the setting this Thursday for the 45th Historical-Artistic Tour, a cultural event this year focused on the figure of Saint Francis of Assisi and the influence of the Franciscan order in the city, coinciding with the 800th anniversary of his death.
For approximately one hour and fifteen minutes, participants explored various points of the neighborhood, delving into the history of the Franciscan order, its roots in the Canary Islands, and its particular connection with Telde. The activity, coordinated by the official chronicler of Telde, Antonio María González Padrón, featured the accompaniment of the Municipal Music Band of the Telde City Council.
The tour began at Plaza de San Francisco, where the Councilor for Culture, Historical Heritage, and Tourism, Juan Martel Santana, welcomed attendees. Speakers included Dr. Juan Sebastián López García, official chronicler of Gáldar, who discussed the Franciscan presence in the Canary Islands; María del Rosario Martín González, who focused on the Third Franciscan Order in Telde; and Luz Marina Delgado Hernández, who detailed the historical references of the conventual neighborhood's street names.
Following the walk, a recognition ceremony was held at the House of doña Nilia Bañares Baudet. The mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña, delivered remarks before unveiling the plaque naming the space the Viewpoint of the Official Chronicler, Antonio María González Padrón, highlighting his work in disseminating local history.
The honoree, Antonio María González Padrón, expressed his gratitude for the recognition. Mayor Juan Antonio Peña officially closed the event, which has become a benchmark in the San Francisco festivities and a tool for promoting the history of Telde.
