Applications for the Canary Islands Government's university scholarships for the 2026-2027 academic year have seen a 26% increase compared to the same period last year. As of July 14, 1,343 applications had been submitted through the electronic headquarters, surpassing the 1,069 recorded during the same dates of the 2025-2026 academic year.
Concurrently, there has been a considerable decrease in the demand for assistance during the application process. Calls to the 012 information service have dropped by 41%, and in-person assistance has fallen by 66%. These indicators suggest that students find it easier to complete the application autonomously.
The Minister of Universities, Science, Innovation, and Culture, Migdalia Machín, highlighted that the initial data confirms that the measures implemented to simplify the process are facilitating access to scholarships. "We wanted the procedure to be simpler for students and for more people to be able to submit their applications autonomously," she stated.
Machín recalled that the current call includes, for the first time, proactive administration measures, allowing previous applicants to access the procedure with much of the information pre-filled. "Reducing administrative burdens is a way to improve public services and facilitate access to resources that contribute to ensuring equal opportunities," she added.
The deadline for submitting applications will remain open until August 6. The call for the 2026-2027 academic year introduces, among other novelties, an increase in the residence grant to 3,000 euros, an update of income thresholds, and a reinforcement of the second chance and academic excellence modalities.
