Drunk Driver Seriously Injured After Causing Head-on Collision on TF-5

A driver in his 30s was seriously injured this Saturday after causing an accident by driving the wrong way on the Northern Motorway (TF-5), near Chamberí, after testing positive for drugs.

A driver who tested positive in a drug test was seriously injured this Saturday after causing a collision by driving the wrong way on the Northern Motorway (TF-5), near Chamberí, while the occupant of the other involved vehicle suffered minor injuries.
According to sources from the Santa Cruz Local Police, the driver, around 30 years old, started his journey in the wrong direction on Avenida Benito Pérez Armas, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, continued over the municipal swimming pool viaduct, and entered the TF-5 via the exit lanes, driving against traffic.
Several vehicles managed to avoid him before he collided with another car traveling downhill on the motorway, near Chamberí.
The driver responsible for the accident tested positive for narcotics and was taken in serious condition to the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, while the other person involved sustained minor injuries.
As a consequence of the accident, the TF-5 was closed to traffic for approximately one hour, and traffic was diverted along the road parallel to the cemetery.
Emergency services involved in the operation included firefighters from Tenerife, personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service, and officers from the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Local Police, who are compiling the accident report.
