Local Police officers in Santa Cruz de Tenerife intercepted an electric scooter rider traveling at nearly 100 km/h, evading a checkpoint and operating without mandatory insurance.

During the early hours of the morning, officers from the Local Police of Santa Cruz de Tenerife apprehended an electric scooter rider traveling at an alarming speed of nearly 100 kilometers per hour on the Carretera del Rosario. The operation began after observing the vehicle making a U-turn without respecting existing traffic signals.
Upon signaling the rider to stop, the individual ignored police instructions and attempted to flee, forcing officers to initiate a pursuit. During the chase, both the scooter and the police vehicle maintained a sustained speed of 100 km/h until the rider was finally intercepted near the Hospital Universitario de Nuestra Señora de Candelaria (HUNSC).
At the time of identification, the rider claimed that the scooter, which lacked a speed limiter, belonged to a friend. Officers confirmed the presence of a button to increase power and a five-speed selector, documenting these components.
Subsequently, the scooter's actual owner was located, confirming the vehicle was not reported stolen. However, the scooter was immobilized as it had not had mandatory insurance in effect since December of the previous year. The owner stated that he had acquired the scooter with these factory specifications.
All technical documentation, the police report, and photographic material have been officially submitted to the Provincial Traffic Headquarters for the processing of the corresponding sanctioning procedure.
