The Ministry of Social Welfare of the Canary Islands Government has reported the significant expansion of the advanced telecare service, which has grown from assisting 4,300 Canarians in October 2025 to the current 11,082 individuals. This initiative, managed by the specialized company Atenzia, aims to improve the quality of life and safety for dependent persons.
The Vice Minister of Social Welfare, Francisco Candil, highlighted the "considerable improvement in the quality of services and attention" provided by this system. Beneficiaries receive personalized attention with 24-hour coverage, ensuring immediate assistance and notification to family members or emergency services in case of incidents.
For her part, the Director General of Dependency, Concepción Ramírez, emphasized that the system adapts to each user's "needs, habits, and life environment." She added that professionals can travel to individuals' homes to provide direct assistance when necessary.
The service is supported by a team of approximately thirty professionals distributed across two offices in the Canary Islands. The Director General of Atenzia, Antonio Rodríguez, explained that the technology used allows professionals to "know their needs at all times" and act proactively and reactively.
During a visit to one of the offices, devices such as occupancy sensors and smartwatches that monitor users' life patterns were demonstrated, helping to identify their real needs. The total approximate investment for this initiative exceeds 30 million euros, including seven million for care until 2027 and 22.7 million for the acquisition of technology.
