The Government of the Canary Islands has unveiled an extensive program of cultural, social, and sports activities to commemorate Canary Islands Day, which will take place across all islands from this Wednesday until June 6.

The III Canarian Week will bring a dozen events to all islands, starting in La Palma, where the Plaza de España and the Avenida Marítima of its capital will host the inaugural event. The goal is to bring these traditions closer to young people, ensuring their continuity and real practice.
Among the sports activities, a Latin sailing fraternity regatta will be held at the Traditional Regatta Field of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Boat Federation, reviving an event after several years. Traditional sailing will also play a prominent role in a school day at the Insular Center for Nautical Sports of Playa del Cable in Arrecife, Lanzarote.
Sports such as Canarian wrestling, stick fighting, 'pina', and 'billarda' will be showcased in the Torre del Conde Park of San Sebastián de La Gomera, with the participation of primary school students. In Tenerife, the Finca de La Casa del Ganadero de San Cristóbal de La Laguna will host an exhibition of cattle dragging, 'lucha del garrote', and plow and stone lifting for schoolchildren.
In Fuerteventura, Canarian ball and shepherd's leap will be practiced during an activity for students at the Tefía Youth Hostel in Puerto del Rosario. Latin sailing will again be central in Gran Canaria with demonstrations at the Muelle Deportivo de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Canary Islands Day will culminate with the traditional Institutional Wrestling Match, pitting the Guamasa and Bediesta clubs against each other at the Martín Marino Terrero in El Pinar, El Hierro, including a women's challenge.
The head of Science, Innovation, and Culture emphasized that the Month of the Canary Islands reflects a territory that creates, researches, and is proud of its identity, integrating music, traditions, and knowledge. Music will be a main focus, with a wide presence of artists and groups representing both traditional and contemporary creation, featuring concerts by artists such as Olga Cerpa y Mestisay, Los Sabandeños, and Los Gofiones, among others.
The program includes the Atlantic Roots Fair in Lanzarote and the XIII Edition of the La Graciosa Timple Meeting. Additionally, events will be held in Madrid, such as the Canarias tiene el Flow concert and the IX Canarian Pilgrimage of Casa Canaria, and in Brussels, with the Raíces de la Big Band de Canarias concert. Mini-Fairs of Science and Innovation, Silbo Gomero workshops, and activities related to Canarian Literature Day will also take place, culminating with the institutional ceremony for the presentation of the Awards and Gold Medals.
