Public works investment in the Canary Islands has experienced a significant increase of 34.7% during the first half of 2026, totaling 817 million euros. This growth considerably surpasses the national average.
Nationally, official tenders for building and civil engineering works grew by 7.2% between January and June, while the archipelago registered a 34.7% advance. This strong progress consolidates the increase in public works activity in the islands during this pre-election year.
Regional and local administrations in the Canary Islands are the main drivers of this investment, accounting for over 93% of the total tendered budget, exceeding 764 million euros. These administrations have increased their tendering budget by almost 195 million euros compared to the first six months of 2025.
These figures come from the Official Tender Statistics in Construction compiled by ISTAC, which collects the budgets for building and civil engineering works promoted by various Public Administrations. The pace of growth in public construction contracting in the Canary Islands is notably higher than for the country as a whole.
