The Government of the Canary Islands has designed a broad program of cultural, social, and sports events that will run from today until June 6 across all islands, in celebration of Canary Islands Day.

Under the slogan "We Are Heritage of the Canary Islands," nearly a hundred activities have been organized. These initiatives aim to disseminate the essence and identity of the archipelago's inhabitants, fostering a sense of belonging to a unique land and the value of a common identity.

"The talent of our land is anchored in our traditions but transforms with time and coexists with new forms and formats that respond to current times, with the generalization of technology use and the importance of innovation and science."

Among the novelties, the celebration of the first traditional elders' gathering on each island was announced, emphasizing that the human heritage of the Canary Islands is not static but projects the potential of its citizens in all areas and ages.
In the sports field, a program of indigenous sports has been detailed, including the III Canary Islands Week of Traditional Games and Sports. This week has become one of the fundamental pillars of the events organized by the Government, with a dozen events reaching all islands, starting in La Palma, where the Plaza de España and the Avenida Marítima of its capital will host the inaugural event.

"This initiative allows us to bring our sports modalities and traditional games closer to young people, which enables us to make them main protagonists of a heritage that is part of our identity."

Sports activities include a Latin sailing twinning regatta in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a school day in Arrecife (Lanzarote) focused on traditional sailing, and exhibitions of Canarian wrestling, stick game, pina, and billarda in San Sebastián de La Gomera. In Tenerife, the Finca de La Casa del Ganadero in San Cristóbal de La Laguna will host a display of cattle dragging, stick fighting, and plow and stone lifting. In Fuerteventura, Canarian ball and shepherd's jump will be practiced during the activity that students will carry out at the Tefía Youth Hostel, in Puerto del Rosario, while Latin sailing will again be prominent in Gran Canaria with demonstrations at the Muelle Deportivo de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Canary Islands Day will culminate with the Institutional Wrestling Match, which will pit the Guamasa and Bediesta clubs against each other in the Terrero Martín Marino of the municipality of El Pinar, along with a women's challenge.
In the field of science, innovation, and culture, the program reflects a territorial model that creates, researches, and is proud of its identity. Music, traditions, and knowledge are integrated, connecting identity and development. Music is a central axis, with concerts by artists such as Olga Cerpa y Mestisay, Los Sabandeños, Chago Melián, Taburiente, Los Gofiones, Achamán, Hirahi Afonso, and Jose Manuel Ramos, who will tour theaters and open-air spaces on the islands. The cultural offer also extends beyond the archipelago, with events in Madrid and Brussels.
The program is complemented by Mini-Fairs of Science and Innovation, Silbo Gomero workshops, activities linked to Canary Islands Literature Day and this year's protagonist, Alfonso García Ramos, as well as actions to promote knowledge of cultural heritage. The institutional act of Canary Islands Day, with the presentation of the Awards and Gold Medals, will conclude this program.
